Certificate Program for Personal & professional development

Modeled after Handarbetets Vänners Vävskola, Indigo House Textile Studio offers the broadest scope of handcrafted textile training in the United States.

The program runs in two nine-week terms, the first beginning in the fall and the second beginning in the winter. Most of your time will be spent at the loom. Additionally, you will study Color and Design, Drafting, Fiber Properties, Embroidery, and Finishing Techniques. Extra courses in Synthetic or Natural Dying, Katazome, Kumihimo, Shifu, Spinning and Tapestry Techniques are also available.

There will be specific projects assigned coordinating the things you learn and your innate sense of design and creativity. These projects include, and are not limited to items such as upholstery fabric construction, floor rugs, table linens, window treatments and cloth for garments.

In your second term you will be required to participate in a collaborative project intended to train you for using your textile skills in the world once you graduate. Gallery presentation of work completed during each term is also required and provided for.

To maintain the highest level of comprehensive learning, the two-term certificate program is offered as one unit and cannot be divided into smaller course units.
